What/ why Uncle Tai's gets two stars: Location and decor. Food: Not remotely good enough to warrent the amount of $ for the meal. If the food were decent I would gladly pay the money and not care. Pot of tea, Shrimp Cha Cha ( 8 shrimps completely flavorless w/ no spice to it- comes w/ broccoli that was water logged), Shredded chicken w/ garlic sauce (some flavor, full of too many chopped wood ear mushrooms, no spice), Uncle Tai's fried rice (eh. small shrimps were mealy, hardly any chicken or pork). With tax and tip $65. If you are expecting ribs, they don't offer it. If you are expecting shrimp w/ lobster sauce, they don't offer it. If you want Peking duck, not on the menu, and these are just a few items not served here. Cart serving food had a very soiled tablecloth on it. Not appetizing. I'm not fancy. I'm not looking for elaborate dim sum (although, I do love that). I just want above average Chinese food like I used to eat in Long Island, and New York. I'm giving up on Chinese food in South Florida. Lost cause.

I have been coming to Uncle Tais for over 20 years, and keep coming back every time I'm home in Florida. Peter and the team there are so welcoming and friendly, it's like visiting old friends. I always look forward to the wonton soup, the crispy beef, the chicken and black bean sauce, and the eggplant. The tastes are delicate and spot on. I've now lived in LA, Austin, San Francisco, and New York and this place would stand up in any of them. Prices are totally fair for the food and level of service you get here.

This place is filthy!!!!! We can't imagine how dirty the kitchen must be... The staff was as rude as it gets ... We walked out, that is a first for us...

If I could give this place no stars, I would. The staff was dismissive, and after 45 minutes, we had to walk out, as we had not yet been served. Do not go here!

Very good Chinese food, sat outside in the beautiful evening but very crowded. We had general tso chicken and pan fried noodles with chicken and shrimp. We also had hot and sour soup which was excellent. Definitely a very good meal.

Over the course of many years I have eaten here many times. Each meal has been great without exception. The service has been good. Not exceptional but courteous and efficient. A little more expensive than most Asian restaurants in the area but worth it.

Awesome dinner... Let's start with the drink. I usually don't like sweet drinks but their ZEN cocktail is an exception. Ok, it's not super sweet, the lemon juice gives it a bit of tartness that makes this drink perfect. For appetizer we had the Szchechuan Dumplings - Spicy but good. An assortment of plates were ordered for the table, and how grateful I was for this. I got to try the whole fish, a lobster dish, etc., Everything was delicious but my favorite was the Uncle Tai's Crispy Beef. Inside and outside seating, very attentive staff, plus valet parking available.

Uncle Tai introduced me to Hunan cuisine back in the early 70's when it was considered an avant garde world class Asian restaurant located in the East Side of Manhattan....Many years later this standard bearer left the Big Apple and settled in chic Boca Raton.....Whenever we were in the mood for an upscale Chinese meal in Boca ,Uncle Tai was the place to go... Sad to say , based on our most recent dining experience Uncle Tai has become Uncle "Tiresome". The sedate palatial setting with white table cloths surrounded by ruby red columns which still stand guard over what has become generic chinese dishes. The early bird special offered 3 choices ..my wife opted for a generic shrimp & broccoli dish preceded by a forgettable salad & a humdrum egg roll ....my hot sour soup was a bit starchy without any significant amounts of pork, tree ears or lily buds. My chow fun noodle dish had a "take out" quality so I took it home....we finished our meal with pistacio ice cream. Our servers had the same quality as our cuisine...mechanical & devoid of personality. Sad to say all good things sooner or later come to an end ..we may not return.

very authentic Chinese food, I travel to China very often and this place is one of the best in south Florida. Very clean and great service. The portions are a good size as well, which justifies the price. I usually list the dishes i had, cant remember, but i was there a few times and all was great. Go with your favorite chinese dishes, cant go wrong.

How many times can I count the ways how absolutely terrible the food is here.. unfortunately my husband and I ate there as a Roccos spillover..bad mistake...I ordered spring rolls which were probably the worst roll mush i have ever eaten..the sauce was a bland corn starch gloppy mess. .I mean zero flavor.. The orange beef and the crispy honey duck tasted almost identical..no identifiable meats within an almost rancid tasting coating. The accompanying broccoli was still so raw that the sad knives we were given couldn't even cut through -I kid u not..waiter disappeared of course..but a lady was constantly clearing our table..whether warranted or not. The clue should have been that we were the youngest people eating there. .I suppose some people continue to frequent this restaurant due to the portions or tradition..certainly not the quality of the food or the high prices. The clincher is that I am very sensitive to MsG so lo and behold i was up all night w a migraine and all the fun it brings.. We hadn't eaten there in prob 10 years so I suppose another 10 would be just fine.

You know Uncle Tai's is different from the moment you drive up to the parking valet. It's large, posh, polished and mostly very good, albeit expensive. No crispy noodles here. Best hot and sour soup I've ever had, layers of rich flavors and properly spicy. An app called vegetable pie was almost a vegan version of jerky, wrapped in a hoisin sauce lined pancake. Crispy beef was a surprise. I expected shredded beef, but instead received what amounted to sliced beef tenderloin. While tender inside and crusty outside, the red pepper symbol next to on the menu was meaningless. The orange-peel flecked sauce was rich, but sweet. Duck in plum sauce on the other hand, lacked sweetness. We weren't asked about dessert, nor did we receive the usual sliced oranges other Chinese eateries proffer at the end of the meal. Still, I'd return to sample a few other dishes. Plaudits to our Haitian-American bus boy who kept our water glasses filled.

Wednesday, March 11, 2015 had dinner for 3. The spring rolls were overdone, bland and full of oil. Their signature dish was a $49.95 crispy 3 pound Snapper, hunan style, over cooked, crispy and dry inside. Hard to remove the flesh from the bone, we ended up picking at it to find morsels of fish to eat. The sauteed mixed vegetables and tofu was good, but nothing special. There were no specials, just order items off a menu. Boring. The coffee tasted like instant. The water was not filtered and had that unique Boca Raton chlorine taste. I bought my first gourmet restaurant at age 21 about 40 years ago at the center of a large metropolitain city with a population in excess of 5 million. I certainly was not impressed by the service. It was underwhelming. Bill for 3 came to $80.00 without wine, tips and taxes. This restaurant really needs a makeover, a better manager and a new chef.

I've experienced exceptional Chinese food in Chicago and in suburban Detroit. Never actually had an exceptional Chinese food experience in Florida so I was hoping, but was sadly disappointed. This place is big and the decor is still nice, but it's time to rip the carpet out and reupholster all of the chairs. Everything is burgundy and although I'm sure it's been cleaned it's past the point of no return. When the light hits it you can see it's just filthy and nasty. On to the food. Seriously.... The crab rangoon and the sesame chicken at the food court at Boca Town Center are so much better at a fraction of the cost. We both were nauseated all night. Not sure why since we both ate totally different things, but it's true. The place was busy. At 47 I was the youngest person in the place. Most started collecting social security when Regan was in office..... seriously... This is an old and dedicated crowd. Our meals were acceptable. Nothing special. The waitstaff looked unhappy. We went, we saw.....Enough said.

We went there the other night. There were 12 of us and we had reservations. When I walked in and told them our name, he pointed to the back of the restaurant and said go there. We all sat down and waited 20 minutes to get menu's. we had a very rude waiter. He snapped at us and yelled listen to me. He argued with us about the kind of rice we ordered. He put all our food in the middle of the table like we were eating family style, but we were not. The food was good, but I would not go there again, I don't need to be abused by the waiter, there are too many choices out there.

Awesome ! Crispy Walnuts, Hot and Sour soup or Shark Fin soup are all great starters. Then grab the jumbo Shrimp and Scallops Szechuan style and an order of Shredded Beef and of coarse an order of brown rice. ENJOY !

What at one time I remember was a classy and beautiful asian restaurant, has now weathered and not been updated.... called in at 9:15 on a saturday evening to see if they were taking reservations, I was advised there was no wait for two people... arrived and was told we had a wait, so we decided to use the ladies room. Extra tables were put in the room we could barely navigate through... my companion, 90 years young, had to struggle with cane to get by seated guests. Entered ladies room which was FILTHY... toilet paper and paper towels strewn all over sink and floor and toilet areas. My bathroom had no toilet paper so my companion had to pass me from her cubicle. Besides paper clogging up sink, the faucets were filthy as well. Upon entering we saw the woman who had been at front desk. Mentioned to her the state of the bathroom and rather than thanking me for suggesting a staff member needs to address the mess, she blew me off saying she'll look into it. Came back to entrance and was ignored; upon asking if our table was ready we were ungraciously seated. Ignored by waiter, asked a 'senior' waiter to come by and take our order and that required two requests. After ordering I asked if we could speak to the waiter as I wanted to add a vegetable dish to compliment our order... a server disappeared and never came back with a waiter; catching the eye of another waiter I mentioned that we would liked some hot water with lemon or hot tea, as nothing had yet been brought to the table... his surly reply was "you need to ask for that". Two dishes we ordered were fine; dining experience was horrible. We had "ordered" brown rice with our entrees... give me a break that they charge for that with the steep prices for entrees! Despite that, we were served white rice which we declined, and had to wait 10 minutes for the brown rice. Upon leaving the woman who I had spoken to at the front desk ignored us, bending over to another person standing there, indicating what appeared to be her annoyance that I had mentioned the bathroom is dirty. No smile or thank you... Reading Dominique L's 2014 December review, I would say she more succinctly summed up Uncle Tai's which I will quote: "Uncle Tai's fails pretty much every standard for good food and a restaurant. Will not be returning."

It only took us 11 years to try Uncle Tai's. It's been around a long time in Boca with a pretty good reputation. All the food was very well seasoned with fresh ingredients. While well above most of Chinese in the area it did not measure up by Hong Kong or even Chinatown in NY standards.

A NIGHTMARE. Did this just happen to me? After months of contemplating visiting Uncle Tai's in Boca Raton, FL - I decided to take my family there today. When we arrived we were quickly seated (because the place was pretty much empty). Our waiter took our order and I thought all was going well. While eating the "fried rice" I kept feeling a crunchy thing in my mouth and keep spitting it out to see what it was...it turned out to be EGG SHELLS. Yeah. I had to call the waiter over for a refill and he NEVER NEVER came over to ask if we wanted something else or if we were okay with our food. To add insult to injury my elderly mom attempting to finish her wonton soup was asked fives times if she was done - so they could collect her bowl. At one time the server went to pick up the bowl and my mom grabbed it back LOL. Yes this really happened. BUT IT GETS WORSE. The food and service was so poor that I decided to leave a small tip (I should have not left anything at all), well as my family and I walked out of the restaurant our waiter followed us outside and tapped me on my shoulder, I turned to him and he said, "do you realize that the bill was $60...I said YES. The waiter then said, "Why did you leave $3.00, in the United States of America the tip is 15%." YES HE DID FOLLOW US OUTSIDE AND YES HE CONFRONTED US ABOUT THE TIP. I responded, "In the United States of America tip is contingent on the service a customer receives, a customer is not obligated to give a waiter a tip just because...a tip IS EARNED." I EXPLAINED TO him the reasons for the 5% tip and the EGG shells that my family consumed (AND WE DID NOT COMPLAIN). So to have this waiter follow us outside (and physically touch me) and complain about a tip is beyond comprehension. In all my life I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS." 1. BAD FOOD, 2. BAD SERVICE, 3. BAD & CRAZY WAITER. I will never eat there again and will tell everyone and anyone I possibly can about my experience and to avoid this place as well. THE AUDACITY. SAVE YOURSELF CHECK OUT: OMG wptv.com/money/consumer/…

There are plenty of Chinese places in South Florida, but it's hard to find more 'authentic' Chinese food. This place is your ticket to a better Chinese gastronomical experience, but personally I find some drawbacks. The service in my experience was average. I had to wait for the waitress to pick up my check while she chatted with her co-worker. The front-end staff didn't come off as friendly, but somewhat attentive nonetheless. The atmosphere is so-so. Uncle Tai's dining area is very traditional and fancy, but I just wasn't digging it compared to the food being served to me. The food is good, period. I've had the General Tso's and Crispy Beef, which were well prepared and still light years ahead of other Americanized Chinese joints in the area, but I still feel the restaurant is overpriced for what you get. Overall, awesome Chinese food in relation to other places in Boca. It came off as a place trying to shoot for the upscale crowd, but ignoring the potential to be a great locals place with honest Chinese at great prices. Definitely a must-try in Boca.

Everything is good but the Crispy Beef and Crab (or lobster - i'm not sure) rangoon is especially delicious. Hot and Sour Soup is also a favorite.

3 stars for the food, 0 for the "experience" so we'll average it out to a 1! I did like the vegetable soup--if you go here, get it, and my lamb with scallions was good but nothing special. The service here is complete garbage. They gave us the stink eye and rushed us out of there basically it would seem because we brought our babies! And the babies were actually completely well-behaved!! The baby is always good and the toddler was sitting calmly and eating for once, and using his inside voice LOL. But seriously, they claimed they were closing soon and told us we had to order immediately and then never asked if the food was ok after they brought it or if we needed anything like maybe a refill on our drinks sometime during the meal. This is not ok if your food is spectacular--and this food is just average. I can make a meal this quality at home for under $5-10...don't waste your money like we did ($50 for two lunches and sodas w/ tip!!...not sure why hubby tipped except he is a softee)...and avoid the RUDENESS. Skip this spot.

I like most dishes here. Food is tasty but last couple times hasn't been as good. They have been cited with some really bad health inspections which turned me off. Service was never their forte. Hopefully they turn it around. Food used to be best Chinese in boca

  • Sarah G.

I went here for dinner on a Saturday night. It's mainly an "older folk" crowd. Reservations are a must. The food is all on the expensive side and the portions are average. I didn't like how they brought out dishes randomly and how others were served and expected to eat while some had no food infront of them. They also tried to rush us out by clearing the table the second something look almost finished. I've had better chinese food for cheaper, but the quality was there.I like that they give you a brown rice option, as well as allow you to get the sauce on the side. Most of their dishes are spicy, so if this not your taste, you may want to eat elsewhere. Crispy beef was very good, house soup was average and not hot. The experience here was ok, but nothing special. I expected more.

This is as good as Manhattan Chinese. Love the staff. All of the dishes are equally tasty. Great area too. Extremely authentic clean restaurant

Uncle Tai's has been here for what seems like forever, and I definitely understand why. While the food is a little more expensive than other Chinese restaurants it is worth it, the food tastes fresh and the portions are large. On our most recent trip, we started with steamed dumplings, shared honey crispy duck, Uncle Tai's chicken, beef and broccoli and some shrimp dish that was a special. Everything was delicious and no one left hungry.

Exceptional! This is a great asian restaurant! It offers a variety of dishes, but I would say their white fried rice with sesame chicken is the best. Great hot appetizers too. Service is very fast!

omg i cant believe any review that is recent is getting more than a 2 star here--it has been a while since i went here and avoided it cause it wasnt worth the price last time --but after a year i thought ok to have my date take me there-- now i must say the service was fast but come on now guys $23-25 a plate for dinner!??! and when we asked for brown rice instead of white they had the gaul to charge an extra $1.75 i get free brown rice from a local take out chinese place!!! and ps-- the chicken we ordered was dry and portions small- oh and by the way when i went to the ladies room there were DIRTY TOWELS ON THE COUNTER!! i should have taken pics like another reviewer on here but didnt think i would be posting -- i picked them up with paper towels and placed on the garbage rack for at least the next person that i felt sorry for NEVER AGAIN NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Expensive Chinese food. Not as authentic as people rave it to be. The Hunan noodles was slightly greasy.

Chinese food in S. Florida is unlike Chinese in, say, NY, where it's easy to find a great restaurant. Uncle Tai's, by that standard, is a good find. While it's not as good or as inexpensive as Silver Pond in Fort Lauderdale, it's food is well prepared and delicious. It's head and shoulders above Gary Woo's and leaps and bounds better than the chains, like PF Chang. I have only two complaints. The first is the place is pricey. For Chinese food, you won't find many other restaurants that charge as much as Uncle Tai's. The second issue is service. Bring some small pebbles with you to get your waiter's attention. After your order is taken and you're served, it becomes an Olympian task to get your waiters attention for more water, rice, or to just get the check. In fact, if the service improved, I'd add an additional star in a heartbeat, but based on my experience, they'll get back to your table when they're good and ready to.

No wonder Uncle Tai has 4 stars...they delete the bad reviews!!! Awful restaurant, terrible customer service, food quality has gone WAY down...dont waste your TIME or your MONEY!!!!!!!! I have been to Uncle Tais many times! In the past, the food and service has been good, however, Uncle Tais has gone WAY DOWNHILL!! I thought maybe the last two times were just flukes, but three strikes and they are OUT. The service was awful...we waited a very long time for our food and when it finally came, it wasnt very good. Panda Express tastes better for a quarter of the price. They also nickle and dime you here.....definitely a shame because we used to go a few times a month...NEVER AGAIN! You can do much, much, much better ELSEWHERE! Dont waste your time or money.....and ps- I am not a picky eater and pretty easy to please!!

First impressions are hard to shake. I flew in from Baltimore for a few days of business. An old friend who lives in the area highly recommended the place. He told me I had to get the crispy beef and to order it spicy. To give the place a little credit, the hot and sour soup was pretty good. That's where the fairy tale ends. The crispy beef was twice the cost I am used to paying and half as spicy. Remember, I ordered it spicy. A few dried red peppers as garnish don't cut it. Once my waiter dropped off my dinner, I didn't see him again until he asked if he could take my plate. IF I had seen him in the 30 minutes I sat alone at my table, I would have asked for some hot oil or something to add some flavor. Alas, it did not happen. The water service was the lone shining star. This guy came by every 3 minutes. Yes, that's 10 times he came by my table, asking if I would like more water. I thanked him every time. If I rated this restaurant on the service from the guy pouring my water, I would have given it 5 stars. But, I'm not willing to be that gracious for being ignored by my waiter.

Overall Uncle Tai's is another restaurant in Boca that you should avoid. Most places you find in Boca suffer from an unreasonable mark up on food and a pointed lack of service that borders on disrespect. My M-I-L took us out to dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday because my wife ate there years ago and remembers the crispy beef being especially good. When we got there we placed our orders and received our drinks, after appetizers (the crab rangoons are exceptional, but overpriced for the 4 tiny wonton wrapper wrapped packages of crab and cream cheese you receive) our drinks were dry at this time and we did not once get a server to come by and refill, even after asking I still had to finish the meal without a refill on my three dollar soda. My wife raved about the crispy beef and I admit, pieces of it were good, but I found some pieces so devoid of meat that it was all deep fried fat and breading. If you're paying $20+ for a dish of crispy beef *I* expect there to be some BEEF in it. Granted I've only eaten here one time and I'm fundamentally opposed to paying the "Boca Mark Up" on most things. The Boca Mark Up is a term I coined; having been raised in the Midwest, it's when you pay two or three times what you should for something in order to get treated like shit by the people who are supposed to be helping/serving/assisting you. In my opinion if you want a good place to eat in Boca, go over to 2nd ave and eat at the Carribean Grill, it's unpretentious, the food is stellar, and it's ran by real people who've never injected silicon or ass-fat into their lips, eyes, brain, etc.

Wonton soup was very good. Too much grease in the beef, snow pea and mushroom dish. Very attentive bus boys with the water. We have found this to be very true of most restaurants in the area.

Fantastic Chinese cuisine! If I had a personal jet, I would come here for their lettuce wraps. (: The sauce is SO good! Also, their won-ton soup is yummy, even on a hot day (FL, hot? LOL!). Their black bean sauce rocks! I miss this place. Please come to CA!! If you're ever in town, please check this place out.

Defiantly quality Chinese food. Crispy orange beef and chicken are excellent. The service is super fast. This restaurant is my favorite Chinese restaurant by far. Crispy quail and spicy string beans are great starters. The plum wine is a great compliment as well. Five stars for me.

Recently ate dinner and was terribly disappointed. They are way too overpriced for the quality and serve a minimal portion. DO NOT order the chicken lettuce wrap, which came with 1 piece of lettuce and bland chicken inside. The staff is arrogant and inattentive. They are not the best. For the amount of money they charge, I'll spend it on gas and go to the next town.

Had dinner here recently. After reading the reviews here about the crispy beef, I ordered it. Pretty good. However, my companions ordered the General Tso's Chicken and said it was inedible. As for the wait staff, not helpful. One of our diners asked for their meal very mild. Two other people ordered the same dish at our table regular. When the entrees came, there was no difference between one dish and the others. This diner asked the waiter, "is this the mild one?" to which he replied "just don't eat the hot peppers." Disappointing. That wasn't the only action that made me feel our waiter was useless. They do have a nice outdoor dining section in the courtyard - just be aware that it can be very noisy due to the other restaurants around the courtyard with similar setups. I'm glad I wasn't paying for the meal - outrageous prices. $20-$23 for each entree with regular Chinese food portion sizes and as mentioned above, hit or miss on flavor.

For authentic and delicious Chinese food in Boca Raton, Uncle Tai's is the restaurant to go to. Ever since I have been coming down to South Florida over the years, I have come to enjoy it many times when I have went there with my family, particularly my grandparents, who used to go here when they lived in Florida. When you approach Uncle Tai's, you are immediately beckoned by the chopsticks, which are holding a hot pepper, in order to emphasize the fact that the food has a touch of spice in it (some like it hot after all). Entering Uncle Tai's, you will find it airy and opulent, with marble floors and fancy looking tables and chairs. In addition, you will also find the host and hostess, who are a friendly older couple who are also the owners, who are always happy to see their customers and make sure they are treated to an excellent experience. The menu has many different options, such as meat, chicken, and seafood dishes, which are all authentic and tend to be a little spicy (this is part of Hunan cuisine, though you can have the spice of the dishes toned down). If you have a hankering for a meat dish, I happen to like the Sliced Beef with Snow Peas and Mushrooms, which has tender and juicy sliced beef along with crisp snow peas and sweet and nutty mushrooms to enhance it. The Chicken and Broccoli, while a bit pedestrian, has juicy chicken and perfectly cooked broccoli. Another favorite dish of mine is the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce, which contains sweet and plump shrimp along with a pleasantly hot and garlicky sauce and nutty mushrooms. If you order a lunch special, you also receive a pedestrian, though fresh salad with cool lettuce, crisp carrots, and pleasantly tangy soy dressing or soup. In addition to the excellent food, you also receive efficient service with a smile regardless of whether you take out or eat in. If there is one slight complaint I have about Uncle Tai's, it is the fact that it is a little on the pricey side, with the average dish in $10-$15 range. However, you should keep in mind that the portions are generous and the quality is high, so at least you are getting your money's worth in my view. If you would like to further save money, lunch and early bird specials are available. Overall, it is easy to see why Uncle Tai's is considered to be one of Boca's best Chinese restaurants and beats your average Chinese takeout joint and chains like P.F. Chang's.

It is a regular stop for many Floridians. It boasts an expansive menu sure to please most diners. Not my favorite Chinese food, but, as far as the Boca area, it is pretty good. From tofu to shrimp and dumplings to the whole fish, Uncle Tai's has it all. The decor could use a facelift, but, let's face it, most of us don't go for the design, we go to nosh on our Sunday (or any night of the week, if you ask me) Chinese food fix. Make sure you book a reservation, this place must be giving away food the way people line up to get a table.

Excellent dishes served in an elegant atmosphere.High prices can be avoided by ordering from their sunset menu between 5 and 6:30.. The problem here is parking. A good portion of the lot is reserved for valet. Since I value my cars I never valet park and the self parking can be very difficult if not impossible.

Ok fare. Sweet and sour chicken was a bit over cooked

The Chinese cuisine at Tai's is exceptional, so good that we make the 350-mile round trip from Orlando just to come here. This isn't the takeout shop down the block -- the food is flavourful and well worth the premium price. It's also plentiful -- unlike at many low-quality restaurants, at Uncle Tai's all meat dishes have a very high proportion of meat to vegetables. I recommend either Uncle Tai's Beef or Uncle Tai's Shrimp, to be finished off with some Crispy Walnuts. Just remember to eat tofu for the rest of the day.

We used to go to this restaurant very often but after our last experience will not return. We waited a very long time for our order to be taken, longer for the food to be delivered to the table. When it finally arrived it was incorrect. Both the server and the management argued with us insisting that the order was correct. After waiting another half hour the dinner delivered was mediocre at best with no attempt to rectify the situation. Because we were regular customers I found it necessary to go their website and make mention of our experience. The email went unanswered. I find it quite poor that the management did not even dignify my communication with a response. My feeling is that Uncle Tai is a bit too sure of himself. After all, he's not the only show in town.

I thought the prices were high and the food just so-so. Considering the raves I hear about the place, I was a little disappointed.

OK..... that's what traditional Chinese food means to me. To begin, the service was great- actually the waiters reminded me of the staff from my last cruise. We were a table of 10 and ordered the deep fried fish drenched in a sweet sauce, accompanied by veggies and fried rice. Everyone raved at the dish...... being that it was very tasty. However, I did leave there with indigestion and fled home for zantac. Attire is dressy/casual.

First off let me start with i've been coming to this spot for a good amount of time now. I'm basing this off every time i go as well as the most recent. Was really hungry tonight and decided for chinese. Uncle Tai's is my only choice when i wanna eat good chinese. I went with my friend and we ordered the Hacked Chicken, Crabmeat Rangoon, 2 orders of Wonton Soup, Egg-roll and Veggie Spring Roll, General Tso's Chicken, Crispy Beef, and Uncle Tai's Fried Rice. promptly like 10 minutes after the order the food was rolling in. First we got the rangoon and the Hacked Chicken, I enjoyed the rangoon, and my friend that don't really like crab rangoon's liked them as well, the hacked chicken we joked around the difference between a hacked chicken and a chopped chicken... but whatever the diff is it dont matter it was good. it's like some chilled chicken breast hacked up with peanut sauce that has a lil kick to it, was enjoyable. Egg-roll and Spring Rolls were as to be expected from each, good.. Wonton Soup had 3 whole wontons in it, and deff plentiful and tasteful, love it. Gen Tso chick unlike most places it isn't fried. It's still really good, just gotta say extra spicy =) Crispy Beef is amazing, just the right crisp, and not real chewy, just tender crispy beef, with a nice tangy/spicy sauce. Fried rice is made without Soy Sauce, but you can request them to make it with. I prefer it without it, and i put my own on if i choose. A+ in Flavor and consistency on all my visits to this local spot. I would say if I judged a place on just flavor i'd say this is 5/5 in south florida for a chinese place. I like to add in appearance and display of the food, in-which i'd say this is a solid 4-4.25 stars Always.

This would definitely be a 3 1/2 star restaurant if I was allowed that extra half of a star. I haven't been here in at least 15 years (wow, that makes me sound old) and probably wouldn't have even thought to come here if Sushi Ray hadn't been closed for lunch next door. Uncle Tai is a great upscale Chinese restaurant with great service and good food. Today I went with the shrimp and cashew dish, which was pretty tasty and I also ate some of my boyfriend's yummy chicken moo shoo. The prices are a little high for Chinese food, but if you go during the day their lunch menu is reasonably priced. It was also nice to sit at tables outside and enjoy the Florida weather.

Excellent Service. Do call and get a reservation. This place was very busy with lots of regulars. The food was fantastic....we had the following: *eggrolls/soup *Shrimp Special *Beef & Scallions *Vegetable Special *Green Bean Dish *Cheesecake, Sherbert, Ice Cream (dessert) The prices are a little high, that is why I gave them a 4 star. But I would pay the price for the service and quality of food we got. It probably is the best we've had in a long time.

The little woman and I stumbled in to Uncle Tao's after a tiring day of shopping for "my last suit." Shopping is not my favorite thing, and I was exhausted and not in the right mood to enter the only genuine Chinese Restaurant in South Florida. Wow! First off we arrived about 5:00 PM. We were given a comfortable table and a busboy cleared off the two extra places. A drink order was taken, and promptly brought to the table--beer for each of us--our usual accompaniment to Chinese food. - We ordered Shrimp Chang Sha Style -- fresh, excellent, spiced as we requested, mildly. Waiter served the oder to each of us. Spring Roll was too crispy--I had to use a knife to open it, but, once open it was a decent starter. Vegetable roll was better. Softer and plenty of vegetables inside. When the shrimp came I ordered a second dish, Baby Bok Choy & Hot Pepper Sauce, which was, indeed, spicy--so, my wife and I shared the shrimp and I had about half of the Bok Choy--it was enough... The atmosphere of this restaurant is top of the shelf traditional Chinese Restaurant, the food is Hunan-Style, If you are a New Yorker I would compare the service and atmosphere to Shun Lee. We'll be back with a group so we can try more dishes. Uncle Tai will probably get his fifth star after we try more of his menu. A winner!

Rating based on food not the service: Came here for a TEAM dinner (business). You will find and older couple behind the hostess podium, seem to be the owner's, right when you walk in standing with smiles and ready to provide service. The staff was extremely accommodating. The restaurant is decorated nicely with its ethnic theme. The restaurant was busy for a Wednesday night and I noticed the phone kept ringing placing orders for delivery. They have outside and indoor dining and for 12 associates we chose a round table inside to account for efficient communication. Our table had a round spool in the middle so we were able to all share our plates very simply. The waiter took his time watching us and allowing us to discuss business and awaiting cues for prompting his service. The food was really good! I definitely thought I would love to come back here for leisure. With 12 adults dinning and not one of them ordering the same thing I sampled a variety of their offerings. Solid in respect to the flavors and taste of the food! This is where it went downhill for me. It was one of the associate's birthday and when I sneaked a cake in before the dinner began they kindly and willingly took the cake to the kitchen and promised to bring it out accordingly. Once I finished my plate I dismissed myself to the restroom; it was time to make sure they were "ready" to bring the cake out any minute. Once again I was reassured they were handling everything and not to worry. I returned to our table and in minutes another waiter was going around asking for dessert choices and coffee requests. Once again I whispered to the waiter, wait - don't bring out the desserts bring the cake. "Yes I know" with an annoyed look on her face. When the birthday recipient ordered a dessert I said to myself "don't worry Lanie they said they were handling it". And really how many more times can I tell them or remind them without flipping my lid?? Have you guessed by now? They brought out the desserts and the coffee. The fire burning in my eyes must have warned the waitress I was going to kill her because she brought the cake out shortly after that. But it was too late. Half of the staff didn't eat cake because they had eaten dessert; birthday person included in this group. And then, of course, all the desserts were charged. I suppose that is why they did it. I found it tactless and tacky. Initially I wanted to go back for the food and now I think I'm going to sit on the idea for a while.

I've been here for several large family gatherings. They have large round tables with a lazy susan in the middle. The crispy beef is one of their specialty dishes. It's very rich but is similar to a saucy general tsao dish, not very spicy. We normally order their hot appetizer platters to share. It comes with spring rolls, chicken and is served on a sterno flame lit cast iron platter with some different sauces. There is valet parking in the Boca Town Center, although I always self-park and walk a hundred yards or less to the restaurant.

The best Chinese in Florida! Very expensive but worth it. The crispy beef is amazing and the pork and string beans are special. Worth the $! During season make sure you have a reservation or you'll wait forever to get a table. Even take out has a two hour wait in season.

  • Scott S.

The food was about average but pricey, about 1/3 above typical prices. The wait staff was not too friendly and overall kind of slow service. Nice decor and ambiance. But I don't think I would return - maybe to get the hot and sour soup.

For Chinese fare, this is Boca Raton's best option. The establishment has stood the test of time; which is remarkable for Boca. The service is typical Chinese restaurant, in that it is sometimes rough around the edges. However, the food is world class. If you want Chinese, this is the place you want to be at. Prices are around $60.00 a couple, with drinks. I find that to be very reasonable for what you are getting at this gem of a restaurant.

  • Dominique L.

Would not recommend. The food was mediocre at best - failing in taste, portions (for the high price), and presentation. The service staff is alright. Tables are cramped and tight. Decor seems to be a hard attempt to matching stereotypes of what a Chinese restaurant should look like. The restaurant itself is not clean. Uncle Tai's fails pretty much every standard for good food and a restaurant. Will not be returning

Simply put....amazing! This is the kind of throwback formal Chinese dining that has fallen by the wayside of the cheap, gross takeout joints. Waiters in tuxedos, table side carts, beautiful decor....it's perfect. And the food? Unbelievable. Amazing quality and absolutely delicious. Uncle Tai's has is a Boca Raton institution for a good reason. It's the best!

IF anyone remembers the Uncles Tai"s from NYC, this is not it. This is a shadow of that great Chinese restaurant used to be and only in Name. The chef and Dishes are gone. Why bore you with the plates and dishes, the place has a great location and great staff. Note to the Owners: Redo your menu, get a chef from NY or San Francisco that can bring back the glory of your food that most New Yorkers thought was the best Chinese Place in NY....If not fade away for good

My favorite Chinese restaurant in South Florida. Love the Jumbo Chili Shrimp, the Crispy Beef, the Hot and Sour Soup. I've probably eaten here nearly 100 times. And I always love the food. The service is excellent.

Been here a few times, food is really good however the last few times we were there we were rushed by our waitress. First time we arrived 2 hours before closing time and she was yelling at us to hurry up and order I didn't take well to this and told her we were in no rush and to come back. She left in a huff then proceeded to come back every 5 minutes. The second time was a couple weeks ago we were seated near the bar which was great and again same waitress rush rush rush .... Don't think we will be back when we go out we like to enjoy drinks appetizers and dinner not feel like we need to get out.

Beautiful interior. We were a party of 6, with very few patrons in the restaurant, even for a Tuesday evening. The food varied from fairly good to mediocre. Over priced for sure, and in several ways not up to the standards of the local restaurants we've enjoyed. The wait staff were rather cold, unfriendly and aloof which was quite noticeable and very unusual. Our main course came a full hour after our arrival. The restaurant was hot, and our request to have the place cooler was ignored. Our coffee and tea orders were taken, but ignored as well, never arriving. Perhaps the worst impression l had was with the wait staff. The water glasses were filled by a very nice gentleman. Not Recommended

Food is ok at best service ok not great We started with edamame which came on a bread plate very small with no flavor at all Then we ordered the house special wonton soup which was pretty good not really work $9 for two tiny bowls of soup with one wonton in each but it was tasty For dinner we ordered General taos chicken i've ordered this this many places it is one of my favorite by far The presentation and the food were not acceptable at all it came on a plain white plate with no garnish or color very plain and boring the food tasted equally so. They put out white rice I requested brown rice they said they're going to charge me more for brown rice very unusual As a whole I would not recommend going there at all go to Rocco's tacos Morton's or Brio for sure!!

It's amazing to find authentic Hunan cuisine in the heart of Boca Raton. Everything is great at Uncle Tai's and they're consistent. I'll break it down so you don't have to order for yourself The Good: ------------- * The scallion / green onion pancakes * soft shell crab are both very good. * The Hot and sour soup is as legit as it comes while the wonton soup was just okay. For Entree's all of the Uncle Tai's namesake dishes have been found to be great as well. * Uncle Tai's crispy beef was the first thing to disappear from our table. * Their General Tso's chicken isn't the breaded and fried chunks you find elsewhere, it's clean pieces of chicken in a tasty sauce. * Garlic shrimp is a little bit spicy. * Dry Sauteed string beans really do bring me back to Hong Kong. ***** -- Pro tip, get it special ordered with some minced meat. * Moo shu pork: Classic! Same thoughts as the green beans. The Okay: ------------- * Fried rice -- Fit the bill but not as good as other places. * Shredded beef What I'm still thinking about: ------------- * The whole crispy fish hunan style -- While it's the most expensive thing on the menu ($50), it looks amazing and comes recommended. Maybe next time we'll be adventurous enough to get it. The Bad: ------------- We usually come during "high season" and their service isn't the best when they get full. They will often put large orders in front of yours. It's frustrating to see a large table get seated after yours, put in their order after you and then get served first. This is a regular occurence and quite frankly it sucks. Also during our last trip, they wouldn't make (or maybe ran out of) the Moo shu pork and green onion pancakes. womp womp. While the food IS good at Uncle Tai's, the operations and service knocks them down from a 5 star to a 4. I don't want to end this on a negative note -- the food at Uncle Tai's *IS* good, but they do have some problems. (Whose Uncle doesn't?) ;-)

First a little about my mom, she's so Asian she might as well have just gotten off the boat. She goes to American restaurants and orders Asian style food. But mostly she just finds the most authentic Asian restaurants and eats there every chance she gets. She's heard raving reviews about Uncle Tais so after a shopping trip to Boca Town Center, we went to dinner there. When I walked in I was like oh god...it's classy Chinese...so basically jacked up prices for fake Chinese food. I prayed that the place would prove me wrong, it didn't. This is a place that I would go if I was absolutely desperate for Chinese food. I think there are great reviews about this place because everyone has different tastes. I looked over the menu and a lot of the food were what I like to call "American Chinese" which is basically Chinese food that I'll never find in China, Taiwan or Hong Kong. My mom ordered cold noodles and it arrived with thick udon noodles...yeah...last time I checked, Chinese cold noodle dishes aren't made with thick udon noodles. Maybe it was supposed to be a "fusion" of some sort but it just totally went wrong. I don't do ice cold udon. Ice cold udon with sesame sauce is even worse. The lettuce wrap was the only good thing I had but it was huge and the first bite I took the whole thing broke. The traditional way to make lettuce wraps is to let the guests wrap their own, and there's usually more than two pieces of lettuce. The seafood soup...uh...basically it's like buffet soup with more real seafood. Bland would be an understatement. I'm sorry but I had to be honest. If you want to try authentic food, this is not it. If you want to walk into a clean classy restaurant that serves what look like Chinese food and pay a higher price for the food, this is your place!

Don't waste your time... nothing to see here. Food is mediocre at best. The restaurant was empty, yet wait staff was inattentive (10+ minute wait to refill water glass) and extremely rude and aggressive. Will NOT be coming back!

Went here for a rehearsal dinner with over 90 people. Had numerous appetizers, soup, main courses. -food was lousy, poorly cooked, little flavor. -chicken had soft, doughy consistency and sauces were bland and made me wish for the dinner to be over as soon as possible. -waitstaff was attentive -went to the bathroom and there was trash around and a ten foot ladder in the men's room -restaurant is large, carpet and seats are worn out and in need of replacement. Overall, felt was worn, dirty and lousy food. Avoid at all cost. I felt sincerely sad for watching other tables sit through this lousy food fair and waste their money. Felt like I was eating in a dirty Chinese strip mall kitchen.

While the décor promises excellence & the menu seems ready to deliver on the promise, I was terribly disappointed by my Uncle Tai's lunch experience. Mediocre food and unremarkable service quickly took a back seat to unjustifiably and...by any standard...surprisingly high prices. Two examples of fare that was far less than fair: Wonton soup ($1.00 extra at lunch) had four very small & not very tasty wonton, a few scallions, no pork and no dry noodles on the table to add to the soup; and a scallion pancake (they called it "flatbread") that was a desiccated, dried out and tasteless embarrassment. Because I've heard so many old-timers refer to Uncle Tai's in glowing terms, I can only assume that at one time it may have been better than it is now. Either that or the old-timers were from Iowa.

Invited here last month with some friends and have been here before and had a pleasant meal. We reserved a table for 6 one week in advance but upon arriving were placed on a cramped table for 5 and they were going to place a 6 th seat there. I looked around and there were lots of empty tables as it was 9 pm on a week day and seeing the table for 6 was open I decided to sit there to which the hostess became very persistent that it was a table reserved for a party of 8! Total BS!! The meal was decent as it had been in the past, though the earlier encounter lent a bad taste to the entire meal. WHEN WILL MANAGEMENT REALIZE THAT IT DOES NOT PAY TO ANTAGONIZE YOUR PATRONS...... hence the 2 stars! (We left as the joint closed and noticed at NO TIME DID A PARTY OF 8 enter after we did) We may be back if the Management acknowledges this review!

By no means a standard Cantonese Chinese restaurant. Food delivered hot, fresh and presented beautifully. You won't wait More than 10 minutes from time of ordering. It will be a bit more expensive than the average Chinese restaurant, but you get what you pay for! Consistently first class and delicious. You won't see Lo Mein, Shrimp in Lobster Sauce or those old standbys, but crispy beef and anything in InGarlic Sauce, and Sa Cha Shrimp are off the scale! Great place to take family and visitors....located in an entertainment and busy area!

I gave up to the fact the Chinese Food in Florida is awful ..UNTIL ... I was taken to Uncle Tais. They have the best Chinese food I have tasted in the state of Florida. The scallops were delicious, medley of mixed vegetables and shrimp shu mai. The wait staff was very attentive, white glove service and clothed tables. The have outdoor seating in a beautiful and happening courtyard. I look forward to going back there soon

Uncle Tai's is always a favorite for get-togethers with business associates and friends as well as staff luncheons and out of town guests. It is a "go to" destination because the food is ALWAYS wonderful and the service is normally very good, as well. Sometimes, everyone at the table orders the Crispy Beef because it is just delicious every time. The fried rice is not greasy--which can be the case with some oriental eateries. An all-around great experience every time!

We came here on a day trip up to Boca. The prices here are crazy. $15-20 per entree for lunch!!! I figured, hell at those prices, this must be some pretty amazing Chinese food. Well, while I can say that the food is pretty good, it is nowhere near worth the price. I would describe this Chinese food as slightly better than PF Changs at a higher price than I have ever seen Chinese food (outside of Mr Chow). I had their version of general tso chicken which is not really general tso chicken in that it is neither breaded nor fried, but it wasn't bad. My wife had the lamb and scallion. Also good but not great. Service was gone the majority of the meal (my sprite sat unfilled 3/4 of the meal), and when they did show, it was to rush us through as they were "closing soon." I think the median age of diner in here was somewhere around 65 years old. Pair for the course in the area, but not necessarily my scene. Probably won't be back.

Vegetable dishes were outstanding. We had sautéed. string beans, eggplant & garlic sauce and tofu with vegetables and all were above the standard. The eggplant was cooked to perfection. Others in our party had chicken with peanuts and shrimp with chia sauce. All were excellent. Huge portions of the vegetables as well. Loved the white Mount Gay Mojito too.

We have been coming to uncle tia's for the past 20 years. The food is always on point they have the same staff working there which is amazing. You can sit outside or inside. Inside is very beautiful and they do have a private dining room in the back for small size parties. Our favorite there is uncle tia's crispy beef.there's no way you could be disappointed in this restaurant.

I ate here once, years ago for an office holiday luncheon and I was not impressed, so I never went back until recently. I went on a Sunday and sat outside and it was FANTASTIC! The service was impeccable and the food fabulous. My husband asked for spicy and they listened! (most Chinese places hear spicy and don't add anything...not here!) My moo-shu pork was one of the best I have ever had, outside of China Town, NY. I cannot wait to go back and try this place again. They have an extensive menu and if the other dishes even come close to the ones we had, this is a winner! (I think I originally didn't like this place years ago because I came with my then office and I really didn't like that job...LOL)

After more than 20 years in Boca Raton, this is still the BEST Chinese food in town. I have been here so many times I lost count and used to order take out every week when I lived nearby. Just about everything here is perfect - generals chicken, tofu, and the special fried whole fish are just a few of my favorites. This place is the real deal.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
